ØYVIND MARKUSSEN

(b. 1970) lives and works outside Oslo. I was in my young twenties, when I first discovered the «photobook» and the many wonderful monographs portraying artists from the early 20th century. I was drawn to the world of artistic photography.

After six years at the University in Bergen, studying Literature and Social Anthropology, I decided to move to Brisbane to attend the Photography program at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.

This was the most memorable and magnificent time. Surrounded by a wonderful staff and encouraging teachers, I learnt to understand how I could recognize and present my world through photography.

Through the serie The Australian beach, I was challenged to capture the country’s beach-culture. This was truly an eye-opener, and for me, the first chapter of personal work.

My photographs are personal and spontaneous. A result of emotions and a certain atmosphere. But it is not simply about visual aesthetic. I want people to look and then look again.

WHO WE ARE

We’re an independent Oslo-based duo founded through a shared passion for photography. At Markussen Photographs, we create and offer limited-edition prints.

The start-up is a result of our common interest and love for photography. As siblings and collaborators, working together and with others, gives us great pleasure.

We are dedicated to make outstanding prints. All editions are archival pigment prints on high quality fine art paper and are accompanied with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity.

We love fine materials and proper craftsmanship. Our photographs are meant to live on for generations. Framed editions are handmade from the finest quality materials only. Every piece is made with paper and materials ensuring timeless quality and enduring photographs.

With our new project Markussen Photographs we will select photographs from the archive, as well as new work. We’re pleased to present both framed and unframed large- and small-scale editions and we hope you will follow our journey.
